Here at Kasie’s Canine Academy, we use balanced training techniques using all 4 quadrants of operant conditioning. We do not use a cookie cutter approach to train dogs because we train the individual dog in front of us based on what that individual dog needs. We want the dog to work for us because they want to. Our goal with every client is to improve their relationship with their dog by learning how to understand their dog’s behavior and communicate properly with them. We always use reinforcers (treats/ toys) when training dogs. However, some dogs need corrections, this is where the balance comes in. Our training can include the use of training tools to correct certain behaviors if needed. We wait until the dog has a clear understanding of what we are asking of them before implementing any corrections in our training. Life is not all sunshine and rainbows. We as humans learn that some things are just not acceptable from a very young age. We have to teach our dogs that some things are just not acceptable, and with several dogs, that involves using corrective tools. We do not train in a "purely positive" way here at Kasie's Canine Academy. We do use positive reinforcement but Positivity alone (treats/ toys/ affection) will not be enough to break dangerous habits and keep you, your dog, and other dogs safe. We would rather utilize a corrective collar than your dog get bit by a snake, hit by a car, or pull you down! We believe in balance with the use of all 4 quadrants of operant conditioning using both reinforcers and corrections.
Kasie has been training professionally for 8 years now. It all started in 2014 when she got her first dog, Sissie. Sissie is the red Australian shepherd pictured to the right. Sissie was the most challenging dog that Kasie has worked with, even to this day. Sissie is the reason Kasie got started and the reason she is still training. Kasie wants to help more owners with dogs like Sissie that struggle daily with countless issues.
Kasie then adopted, Brandy (yellow coonhound), and quickly realized that she needed to get involved with nose work. Kasie started learning all she could about nose work, trailing, detection, and article searches. This is the dog that got Kasie started in the working dog field.
Osa, (black lab), is the dog that gave Kasie a great foundation for service dog training. Kasie works with a nonprofit organization (Paws To Serve Heroes) that trains service dogs for veterans and first responders, using only rescue dogs. All 3 of these dogs had a monumental impact on creating the trainer that Kasie is today.
After so many years of training her dogs, helping friends and families' dogs, volunteering with multiple different organizations, reading countless books, enrolling in multiple online training courses, attending workshops, working under other dog trainers, attending countless dog training classes from various dog trainers all over the country, and getting her Master certification from Highland Canine School for Dog Trainers; she finally started her own business! Kasie is one of the few dog trainers that finds joy in taking on the "difficult" dog training cases. She believes that it is never the dogs fault and she will never turn a dog away. There is no such thing as a bad dog here at Kasie's Canine Academy.
Kasie started a foster dog program to help give certain dogs a second chance at life. It all started with a bully mix named "Gibby" that was going to be euthanized due to getting into dog fights. Kasie took him in, trained him, and rehomed him. Then came a pit mix named Farrelly. He was going to be euthanized at a local shelter for no reason other than his looks. He has since been trained advanced off leash obedience, trailing for search and rescue, dock diving, and now bed bug detection!
Then came "Sam" a bully mix that was dumped locally, he has since been trained and adopted out.
Then Came a little terrier mix "Lilly" that was left in a truck on the interstate at 5 weeks old. She completed puppy training and now has a loving home.
We currently have an owner surrender, "Shiloh" (pictured left) that was trained by us from puppyhood. He is now in training to be a service dog and waiting for his perfect match. If you are interested in Shiloh or in need a service dog, fill out our application below!
